| | TICKS!!! I can't STAND them! How do you keep them off of YOU? | | I have two cats and two dogs. The cats roam around outside at their leisure. The dogs are restricted to the deck, unless somebody is with them. BUT, all of them have FRONTLINE PLUS on them.It keeps ticks and fleas off of the animals but, so far this season, I've taken 5 ticks off of myself! (SHUDDER!!!!) They hadn't attached themselves to me; they were just cruising along looking for a good place to park when I felt them. They give me the creeps!!! I have enough problems without getting Lyme Disease! I've taken a couple of ticks off of my dogs when I saw them moving around in their hair... none have attached themselves to the dogs, either. I've also killed two fleas this year. These are the first fleas I've seen since we moved to this house, two years ago, either inside or outside. What are these... mutant ticks and fleas? Are they immune to FRONTLINE PLUS? How do you keep them off yourself? | |

| what do you do to get rid of fleas in your house and yard without major chemical | | Neighbor has fleas in their house and yard. they can not afford an exterminator so I told them what I have done to get rid of them. First I bought a couple of cans of flea spray for carpets and a bottle of malathian. Had the dogs inside while I sprayed the entire yard with the malathian. then I sprayed the downstairs with the carpet treatment, took my 2 small dogs upstairs & washed them thoroughly. Put new flea collars on (this was before frontline plus was invented) Ran back downstairs and put 1/2 a flea collar in my new vacuum cleaner bag, vacuummed real good. then brought the dogs downstairs. treated the upstairs, waited a few (to give it time to kill fleas) then vacuumed upstairs. THEN I took the vacuum cleaner all the way out to the edge of the yard and replaced the bag with the other half of the flea collar. Kept a flea collar in the vacuum bag for several months after that. the fleas and flea eggs get sucked up into the vacuum and then they DIE.Now that there is frontline stuff I don't have a flea problem. what do you do to get rid of fleas without chemicals? | |
| | Ticks drive me buggy! | | I am an avid gardener. I love to be outdoors. But I despise those little nasties called Ticks! My pets are protected by Frontline Plus, but there is nothing like that for humans.*pout* We are in an area with a lot of deer, and I'm scared to death of deer ticks and lyme disease. I had a scare once where the tick's head stayed under my skin when it was pulled off. I went to my doctor who pulled it out and gave me a treatment of antibiotics, just in case.Anyone else have the same feelings about ticks? Do you know of an effective way to control them? | |

| A question for all of my kitty loving friends..... | | Now, with me being the big kitty lover that I am, you would think that I already know the answer to my own question. But I don't and I need your help please. Would you please give me some ideas of some more inexpensive ways to deal with those pesky fleas that are bothering my kitties? I'm so tired of having to use toxic flea spray every week (which means braving 10 out of 11 sets of claws each time. And Sevin Dust works, but I get tired of having to wipe down all of the dusty paw prints and wash my sheets every day from kitties getting it all over my bed. And right now, I just can't get up enough money for what I really want to use, which is the Frontline Plus, even if I go online to order it. Having 11 cats makes it a bit too expensive to buy a 12 pack of that every month. I heard that putting yeast in the canned food helps to get rid of the fleas. Any help you can give me on this would be sooooooo very appreciated. Thanks and big hugs to all.........Carryl | |
| | Do you buy your pet medications online or at the vet? | | I like to get my frontline plus online but I often get my heartguard from the vet because otherwise its not guaranteed. Buying online is usually cheap for both, but I don't want to take the risk with the heartguard. How about you? Where do you buy from? Have you had better luck with one website over another | |

| Natural methods to get rid of fleas in carpet? | | I use frontline plus on all of our cats to keep fleas and ticks off of them. Problem is, now all those fleas are in our carpet! Yikes!!What's a safe way to get rid of them? We have a bird and a fish, plus I have asthma so don't want to set off a flea bomb or anything like that.I've heard of using mothballs in your vaccum sweeper and wondered if that really worked. I'm looking for ideas to get rid of the fleas that don't involve chemicals. Any suggestions would be appreciated? Thanks! | |
| | Fleas – Spot Them, Stop Them, Kill Them | | IntroductionYour cat is your best friend. She plays in the house, snuggles with you when it’s cold and terrorizes the local wildlife. But whether your cat stays indoors or goes outdoors, she can be susceptible to fleas. While it’s more likely that an outdoor cat will pick up fleas, don’t feel safe if she’s an indoor only cat. Fleas can catch a ride on your clothes and when they find your cat they can multiply very quickly.Fleas are an inevitable annoyance that can be avoided and you can keep your cat protected with a little effort and vigilance. The SignsYou need to keep an eye on your cat, especially in summer when your cat is more likely to socialize with other cats and pick up those little pests! Watch for your cat scratching around her neck more that she usually does. This may be due to collar irritation, (your cat does have a collar – right?), but it’s more likely to be fleas if your cat has worn her collar for a while.
Another thing to watch for is more than normal grooming by your cat on her lower spine. The neck and lower spine are favorite places for fleas to hang out. A total give away is if you feel small bumps on your cat when you stroke her. If you... | |

| flea allergies BAD | | help! lexi is allergic to fleas she gets treated 2 times a month with advantix but her skin is still red and she bites and scratches . does anyone know of anything i can do to help her? | |
| | There are no broken bones! | | Yesterday when I came home from work, our dog - Sable - was not using her front paw. It's not like she was just limping on it, but she was not even using it! At first I figured she hurt it a little and she'd be ok. This morning though, I noticed that it was swollen pretty bad and she was still not using it. She was actually crying about coming down the stairs to go outside. So we got her to the vet tonight.Well, it's lime disease. Which is apparently better than a broken bone. She'll be on medication for at least a month, and she should be walking fine in a couple days. She has actually walked around a little bit tonight - but not much. I'm not sure if she'll come upstairs when I go to bed, she might just stay down here for the night.I've never had to deal with lime disease, but I figure she'll be ok... | |
