myLot Discussions on Hyper Dog Launcher | | Calming My Hyper Dog | | Hi! I have an 8 month old cockapoo (cockerspaniel and poodle mix) that is just overly excited. She pretty much bounces off the walls. I can't even let my nephews get near her because she jumps on them and knocks them over. She actually hurt my nephew once because she was so excited. She sometimes bites people by accident in her excitement. This isn't good since lots of kids(ages 3 to 12) are at my house frequently throughout the week so my dog has to stay locked up in her room most of the day so she doesn't hurt the kids. She also pees when she gets excited. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to calm my dog down or know of any products that calm pets? | |
| | hyper dog | | ok, so the other night my hubby and I are sleeping with the dog on his little bed at the ffot of the bed like always. Then the dog starts nosing my foot and jumping on the bed and then off the bed, back on, back off. Ok he's still a pup and I'm thinking time to go potty. Unusual for him at the stage, but ok. Out he goes, in he dcomes, out, in. Back to bed. In the bed, out of the bed, In, out.He is making us nuts, finally, I have to give up and put him in the utility room with the outside dog (it's 20 degrees outside). Finally restful sleep. The next morning I foun out what was wrong with him. One of my kids had left a whole bag of chocolate kisses where the dog could get them. All I found was a pile of candy wrappers. Luckily he seems to have had no long lasting effects from the chocolate save for a bit of diarhea. I have always heard that choclate was bad for dogs, but here's a not to dog owners. APPARENTLY, it makes them even more hyper than it does kids.BE wary! | |

| | Dog is driving me insane! | | We have a 6-month old Lab/Pitbull mix puppy that is a little more hyperactive than we could have ever imagined! He likes to take hold on our pant legs while we are walking and tries to play tug of war. He is constantly running around, getting into things after we tell him "no", and is just extremely hyper. We try to play with him and take him out enough to drain some of his energy, but most of the time, it doesn't work. He'll sometimes bite when he's playing and while it doesn't hurt some of the time, we spray him with a refillable water sprayer so he knows that it isn't allowed. We only spray him when he bites and yet he hasn't deciphered that biting isn't allowed. We love our puppy and have a lot of fun times with him, but we try not to play with him in an aggressive way. What should we do to help him not be so... crazy? | |
| | hyper yapping puggle | | I have a puggle. For those of you who haven't heard of this breed, it is a pug/beagle mix. Very cute, and very sweet. But they have tons of energy. He yaps and barks all the time. And runs around like a small lunatic on "uppers." Any suggestions on how to calm him down a bit? It didn't used to phase me, but now that I have the baby, it drives me crazy. Because if he isn't just being obnoxious in general, he is waking the baby up, who isn't a big "napper" to begin with. I keep threatening to send him to live with my sister, who he doesn't care for, but he just kisses my leg or hand or whatever he can reach, and starts all over again. | |
| | My Dog Got A New Fence For Christmas | | We have a 1 yr old black Lab mix. He broke through our original fence, trying to get a cat. It really was not a large area for him to run, as it was closing in the pool. He is a sort of hyper, wiry kind of dog. He is always full of energy. Fence is extremely expensive, especially to keep in a strong, Hyper Dog. We finally fenced in a larger part of the yard, so he can safely run and play. He was so happy yesterday, when my husband put it up. He just ran and ran and ran. It was well worth the money we spent. ow what to do! she is sleeping more on these pills but when she is awake she is doing everything she shouldnt.. sigh! shes not pulling at the stiches so its not like the collar would help.. the only thing that may keep her still would be to hog tie her! (kidding of course)how do you keep a hyper dog that feels no pain after surgery from going hog wild? especially if she is bigger than you?! lol.. when we had her fixed i had to take her off the meds early so she would feel something and realized that running around like a wild animal was a BAD thing but of course its way too early to even think about taking her off the meds for this last... | |
| | Have you ever had to lose a dog because of health conditions? | | I've been without a dog of my own for some time now, and it really is quite lonesome. My past pup, was one I retrieved from a shelter. He was about a year and a half when I got him, and unfortunately I only had him about a year or two after that. He was a yellow lab-husky mix named Ace. Such a beautiful dog! And he was so mellow and loving. Sadly he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and had to be taken away for proper treatment. Lucky for me, they came to take him while I was away at school. My mother said she cried when they took him (though she never was real close with him.) We spoke with the animal hospital that took him, they put him in an animal rehabilitation center. They said once he was doing better he would be placed in a home with an elderly person who needed a companion but couldn't handle a hyper dog. It's great to know they did not have to put him down, but I still miss my dog. He filled a void in my heart... Something that isn't often done.

| | How do you calm your dog down when he/she gets hyper? | | A friend of mine from high school was getting married this past weekend. So my boyfriend and I went up and stayed at my mom's. Her puppy is such a cutie. He's a little over a year old and still VERY hyper. I feel like if he wasn't so hyper he would listen to her better. I've heard people say they make a little chamomile and mint tea and pour a little of it over their food. There have been a few other suggestions that I have heard. I was wondering if any of you myLotters have experienced a hyper dog and what you did to help calm them down some. Anything you would like to share that work? Anything that completely does not work? That's Kodi down below...who desperately needs a bath. He goes to the groomers this week for a bath and "puppy cut". | |
