Does anyone have a problem with stray dogs?
I love dogs as much as I do cats. We have a dog and a cat and I love them dearly. Wilbur is in and out of the house but Jake is strictly an Outdoor Dog. We keep him in a fence but he has plenty of room to run because we have a big yard.We have a big problem in our neighborhood, however, with stray dogs and they all seem to migrate to our yard because we live on a corner lot on our street. It keeps our poor dog tore up all the time. Today I heard some barking and snarling and looked out the window to see a stray dog up at the fence growling and snarling at Jake because he was eating. He apparently wanted Jake's food.I believe if you have a dog you need to keep it in your own yard so it won't be wondering around to other yards. I hate to see a dog tied up and having to stay that way all day but I also don't like them running all over the neighborhood.
What's the best kind of dog for kids to own?
We'll be getting our side yard fenced soon, so that would give us the chance to have a small or medium sized dog. What type of dog would be appropriate for a family with a young child?Something friendly and not aggressive that doesn't mind being petted or picked up.Perhaps an indoor/outdoor dog that could come and go as she pleased.Hopefully, we could find a smaller dog that would be happy with a VERY small yard space for play. The side yard is maybe thirty feet across by twenty feet long.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Does your Dog have a house?
Yeah I was thinking of building a dog house Ive seen people having a outdoor dog house or a kennel.....Im thinking of a simple but very practical design......... Do you have outdoor dog house?[em]happy[/em]
How a dog, becomes an outside dog
I always thought that a dog that is an outdoor dog, was trained that way. Well the new dog we have now, considering she is probably just over 2 months old, you would think she would welcome the chance to be inside as much as possible..Granted today and yesterday was in the upper 40's, but before that we were in the lower 30's and yet, whenever I let the dog in, within 5-10 minutes, she wants back out. So yesterday and today, since it was warmer, I just put her outside all day. I would check on her once in a while and feed her, but she just seems to be happy outside. It is kind of disappointing though, I was looking forward to having a dog inside and when we leave and over night she is inside, but other than that, she prefers outside..So are some dogs just born to want to be outside all day?
How long to wait?
My husband brought home this dog yesterday, we believe to be a white shepherd. Before claiming her as ours, I wondered what is a reasonable amount of time to wait for someone who may be looking for their dog. We will be posting notices, and asking around. I would hate to be taking someone family pet, though she seemed to be not getting enough food, she is very skinny. She also seemed to be an outdoor dog, the cold doesn't bother her and she can't seem to hold herself, like she is use to go wherever she is.. So, is there a time limit, before saying we now have a dog?
haveing dog problems
Last winter my husband brings home a little dog,he's house broken and all, only has accidents if he's sick. But it seems he is sick more than little, allergies the vet says.He is also loseing hair, shedding like crazy. When my hubby brought him home I said no way,I don't want a house dog! He said Aweeee honey look he likes you! and I still threw my fits and he still kept the darn thing. Now I have dog hair everywheres, and I smother sooooo bad,and I feel like I have dog hair at my nose and mouth,I am always hanging out my door spitting .I am the one who cleans up after it,and I mean I am the only one who takes care of him.I called my hubby up at work and told him that I have had it with the hair and I was going to get rid of him.He got mad at me and told me either find him a home or a bullit for him,and I have to do that too for our daughters outdoor dog Arrow.I have sat and cried over this.I can't take any more dog hair! And my kids all have threw a fit over me even thinking of giving him away.Any ideas on what to do or how to handle this.I am all but lost here. One time a few months ago I was so sick and I couldn't sleep in my room due to no air and it was soooo hot in there, I was...
Pitbull Paranoia.
Do any of the other pitbull owners on here find that the recent wave of negative publicity that pitbulls have been getting on the media is making them paranoid of the possibility of phycho-pit-hateing-activists? I have. I am always worried now that someone would intentionally try to hurt my baby girl. I have found myself feeling that I need to walk right next to her when crossing the street, for fear someone in a car would try to hit her. I never let her off of her leash near roads, but even in fields I find myself worrying about another dog barking from an area that there is a road and her running to see it and someone hitting her or trying to shoot her. I don't ever leave my dog tied out, she is more of a sofa-dog than an outdoor-dog, but even when letting her out to pee I find myself worrying that someone may have thrown poisoned food into our shared yard in an attempt of her life (this actually happened to someone I know, thier dog alomost died and they never figured out what she ate, just that is wasn't anything that they kept inthier house). So what is wrong with the world? A couple of idiots train dogs badly and a couple more provoke some dogs and get bit and now all the...
Teething issues?!?
When wI first got my black lab over a year ago I'd major problems with his teething. Anything electrical, you name it he chewed it. you'd be suprised what he chewed through even though he's an outdoor dog, we got him over the worst of it using a carrot (Any chew toy we got didn't last five minutes). We still can't put lights in our fountain, any ideas? Please tell me others have had the same problem???
Do all puppies tear up the house?
I have a puppy that is tearing up everything. I want to make it an outdoor dog but I am meeting with resistance from my family. She waits till night when I am sleeping to go on her little adventures. I wake up to a mess every morning. I don't have a kennel and she is growing so much I would need a big one to keep her in. I have locked her on the back porch but she scratches at the door and that drives everyone nuts so they let her out. Of course they complain to me when she chews up their things but they still won't keep her on the back porch. So what can I do?
moving cat into a new home, new owners
A relative of mine is moving across the country, and her new home doesn't allow cats, she's renting:( So she's giving the cat to another family member (not me), a new home he's never been in. He's an indoor/outdoor cat and neutered. The new home has an indoor/outdoor dog and an outdoor cat. The dog is kinda grumpy too. Any tips to make this transition easy? I no longer have cats, but this relative is asking me since I'm the family "expert" lol, yeah some expert so I'm asking here!
